Lighting the Auckland Harbour Bridge ....

Prominent New Zealand Architectural practice, Patterson Associates Ltd, have teamed with Modus Lighting to promote an amazing and achievable lighting effect for the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Already a joint winner in the Open section of the Cavalier Bremworth Award in unbuilt architecture, this design was described as "evocative, transformative and eminently doable..."

The Harbour Bridge has been the subject of numerous attempts to get some decorative lighting for a number of years, with less than spectactular results!.... To date, the bridge still spans the Waitemata Harbour cloaked in darkness!!

However Pattersons & Modus are about to change that.... What we need is public support, lobbying from interested parties and political pressure to make it happen!!

The Auckland Harbour Bridge is the last of the 3 Auckland icons still unlit, with the SKY Tower & Auckland War Memorial Museum all gaining a new lease of life thanks to the Philips Color Kinetics LED lighting supplied by Modus. It would be a travesty if the Auckland Harbour Bridge was the 'odd one out'....

Here is a taste of what the bridge could look like, with the creative talents of Pattersons, technical input of Modus Lighting and the LED technology of Philips Color Kinetics....

If you like what you see, check back soon for information on how you can convince the various public bodies, politicians that this NEEDS to happen before the Rugby World Cup.... or leave a comment on the blog, telling us what you think!

it is a bit sad that it is not lit already, if it is not lit by the RWC, Auckland will look a bit behind the times!
